The Modified Rugby Program (MRP) is a new, modified form of rugby in which each boy and girl with a learning and perceptual disability has their own PlayerMentor on the field supporting them. Through the MRP, boys and girls experience the sheer thrill of playing rugby often for the very first time. The MRP embodies the essence and spirit of rugby, a sport which embraces inclusion and diversity.
The MRP is only a success due to the extraordinary support of a range of people passionate about inclusion through rugby. These include Nathan Sharpe and Tim Horan AM our MRP Ambassadors, the Queensland Rugby Union (QRU), the Australian Rugby Union (ARU), the inspiring Rugby Clubs hosting MRP teams, our Coaching staff, PlayerMentors, Allied Health professionals, all our MRP families, our inspiring sponsors and the support of the wider community.
We are thrilled to share this piece of Slam Poetry written and spoken by one of the most inspiring young people we know - Lia Walsh – past School Captain of St Ritas and passionate MRP supporter. In this video, Lia shares her take on the power of the MRP and how its changing our world.
